ID Tag WWII

SG-NAM-ID-TAG

Although this Dog Tag is emblematic of the Second World War, it was worn by American soldiers until 1967. In fact, it was during the Vietnam War that the U.S. Army decided to change the shape of its dog tags in favor of notched dog tags.

Rumors abound as to the purpose of the latter. Some say it was used to wedge the plate between the teeth of fallen soldiers to identify them. Others have it that it was used to open bottles of a very famous soda! In reality, the information engraved on the plate could be "mimeographed" using a special device called an Adressograph Model 70. And thenotch served only to insert and hold the plate in the right direction inside the device.

For the sake of style - historical style - or for re-enactment purposes, prefer to wear these plates without the muffler and without the clasp.
