Our ball chains have a diameter of 2.3 to 3.0 mm, depending on the material. They are produced from the same materials as Dog Tag military plates (304L steel, 925Mil. silver, brass, copper and black epoxy) and are highly resistant to tearing.
Each ball chain is joined at the ends by a semi-permanent connector.
So, unlike a jewelry necklace which is fastened around the neck with a clasp, a military chain is threaded through the head.
That's why it's so important to know your head size! Three chain lengths are available: 60, 68 and 76 cm.
How do you know the right length for a ball chain?
Measure your head size* and then:
- If your head size is under 57 cm, you can opt for a 60 cm chain.
- If your head size is between 57 and 65 cm, you can opt for a 68 or 76 cm chain.
* Head size is best measured with a flexible tape measure, following the circumference of the skull through the middle of the forehead. If you're a motorcyclist, the measurement is the same as the helmet.
Finally, if you're over six feet tall, whatever your head size, you'll want a 68 cm ball chain. If you're approaching or even exceeding one meter ninety, then prefer a 76 cm ball chain.
Tip!
A ball chain can be removed and cut with a simple pair of wire cutters! If you're not sure of the length, always take the next size up, so you can adjust it to suit your needs.
