Plaque Militaire Dog Tag type WWII
This turned-edge military plate is the WWII-type Dog Tag used by the US Army until 1967. It features a retaining notch which was used to mark it on embossing machines (Graphotype being the most common). It was also used to identify its reading direction when transferring inscriptions onto third-party documents using an Addressograph M70.
Abandoned during the Vietnam War in favor of military plates without notches, this WWII-type dog tag was most often embossed using the Indent mode. This mode could be translated as debossing ( relief en creux ), as opposed to embossing ( relief en bosse ). The latter type of marking has become more widespread since the 1980s, due to its improved legibility, but to the detriment of its remarkable authenticity.
Made from type 304L steel, whose main property is that it does not oxidize, this military plate can be worn every day. Although it is possible to decorate it with a bélière (fastening) or a silencer (silicone protection), note that from a historical point of view, this plate is worn as is.
Personalization available by unit:
This dog tag can be embossed with 5 lines of 15 characters max.
GOOD TO KNOW: Unlike all other dog tags, the WWII dog tag can be embossed with a hole on the right and on the back.
